Families like mine

When our daughter was young, one of our biggest struggles was feeling desperate to find families that looked like ours. Everywhere we turned, in books, on television, in movies, at the playground, in classrooms, at the mall . . . everywhere we went we saw families that didn’t look like ours.

We know we made the decision to live in suburbia and raise her in suburbia but that meant that families like ours were few and far between.

Now she’s a teenager and the worlds have shifted a little bit. We see and me many young 2SLGBTQIA+ families in our community. We are grateful that those children we’re meeting are able to grow up seeing other families that look like theirs.

What have your experiences been as a 2SLGTBQIA+ family?

How do you build your community?
